Former US President Honoured With Emmy for Netflix Series

Former US president Barack Obama has added another Emmy to his growing list of achievements, winning the Outstanding Narrator award at the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday.

The 64-year-old was recognised for his work in Netflix’s Our Oceans, a five-part series exploring the wonders of the world’s seas. Obama’s narration in the “Indian Ocean” episode was particularly praised, featuring stories of humpback whales, walruses, and marine life across the Pacific, Arctic, Southern, and Atlantic Oceans.

The documentary was produced by the team behind Our Great National Parks, which previously earned Obama his first Emmy in 2022. He secured his second in 2023 for Working: What We Do All Day.

Obama, who did not attend the Los Angeles ceremony, had his award accepted by comedian Jordan Klepper.

This year’s competition included heavyweight names such as Sir David Attenborough (Planet Earth: Asia), Idris Elba (Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color), Tom Hanks (The Americas), and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Octopus!).

Critics noted that Obama’s distinctive delivery and calm, authoritative tone have become his signature in the narration category, setting him apart even in the company of seasoned performers.
