The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) police have formally banned the use of TikTok by its personnel, citing the need to maintain discipline, uniformity, and the dignity of the force.
A notification issued by the GB inspector general on Monday directed all officers and unit heads to communicate the order across the ranks. The circular made clear that non-compliance would trigger serious disciplinary action.
The move comes amid growing concerns over police officials using social media for personal publicity while in uniform. Earlier in July, two constables in Islamabad were suspended after uploading TikTok videos, in violation of the capital police’s social media policy.
Sources said dozens of lower-ranking officials in Islamabad and Punjab had already been warned to delete their TikTok accounts.
Observers say the GB decision aligns with wider national efforts to regulate police behavior online. In March, the Punjab Police instructed its personnel to avoid posting offensive or political content.
Both Islamabad and Punjab police later formalized policies restricting officials from airing personal views across social media.
The federal government has also repeatedly reminded civil servants to stay away from political commentary and refrain from sharing internal information with unauthorized individuals.
