Argentina cemented their dominance in South American qualifying with a 3-0 win over Venezuela, while Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Colombia also strengthened their positions for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Already assured of qualification, Argentina showcased their class with Lionel Messi at the heart of proceedings. The veteran forward struck twice, either side of Lautaro Martinez’s goal, to give his side another convincing victory.
Messi later confirmed the fixture marked his final World Cup qualifier at home, sparking emotional scenes in Buenos Aires. “Time is passing, and it’s been many years. But finishing like this with my people means everything,” he said.
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil rose to second place with a comfortable 3-0 win against Chile. Youngster Estevao opened the scoring before Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes secured the result.

Uruguay moved to third after a dominant 3-0 victory over Peru, with goals from Rodrigo Aguirre, Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Federico Vinas. Ecuador slipped to fourth after being held to a goalless draw by Paraguay, who sealed their first World Cup qualification in 16 years.
Colombia booked their place with a 3-0 triumph over Bolivia, with James Rodriguez, Jhon Cordoba and Juan Fernando Quintero all on the scoresheet.
The Albiceleste lead the table with 38 points, followed by Brazil on 28, Uruguay on 27, Ecuador on 26, and Colombia on 25.
