Pakistan Updates Higher Education Standards in Key Health Disciplines

The Curriculum Division of Higher Education Commission (HEC) has notified the revised curricula of three disciplines: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D), Food Science and Technology (FST), and Human Nutrition and Dietetics (HND).

These programmes have been developed in alignment with the HEC’s Undergraduate Education Policy 2023, reflecting current market demands, industrial requirements, and international standards.

The curricula were prepared in collaboration with subject experts from academia, accreditation councils, and industry representatives. Utmost efforts have been made to ensure that the programmes are comprehensive, industry-relevant, and aligned with international best practices -playing a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare and allied health professions.

Dr. Amjad Hussain, Director General (Academics & Curriculum) chaired the National Curriculum Review Committee (NCRC) meetings for FST and HND. Mr. Hidayatullah Kasi, Deputy Director, Curriculum Division served as Secretary for all three disciplines.

Prof. Meritorious Dr. Javeid Iqbal was the Convener, and Prof. Dr. Fazli Nasir was the Co-Convener of the NCRC for Pharmacy. Prof. Dr. Tahir Zahoor served as the Convener for the NCRCs of FST and HND. Mr. Tanveer Ali, from the Curriculum Division, HEC, coordinated the meetings.

The revised curricula have been forwarded to all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for implementation and have been uploaded to the HEC website for access by students, faculty, and institutions.
